Course Focus and Rationale

This course provides a comprehensive survey of the categories and types of the world's literature written for children and adolescents. It introduces the essential qualities of both classic and contemporary texts to achieve the following:

  • Demonstrate content knowledge of diverse literary genres.

  • Promote literacy skills through varied texts that suit diverse learners’ gender, needs, strengths, and experiences.

  • Apply effective methods for integrating literature into elementary, middle, and high school classrooms.

Expected Output

The culmination of the concepts learned and their critical application will be assessed through the submission of an Integrated Literature Unit Plan Portfolio toward the end of the semester, in addition to the final examination.
