Gender-Based Literature/Panitikang Malay sa Kasarian
BACR 2-1

This course critically examines literary works through the lens of gender, exploring how literature represents, constructs, and challenges ideas of masculinity, femininity, sexuality, and power across cultures and historical periods. Students will engage with texts from diverse genres such as poetry, fiction, drama, and essays that foreground gender as a central theme in human experience and cultural production. By drawing on feminist theory, queer theory, masculinity studies, and postcolonial perspectives, the course interrogates how gender intersects with class, race, ethnicity, and nationhood in literature. Special attention will be given to how marginalized voices articulate resistance, agency, and identity in the face of patriarchal and heteronormative structures. Through reading, discussion, and critical writing, students will develop nuanced perspectives on the role of literature in shaping and questioning gendered social realities.
