ENGL 307 Translation Studies ABELS 3-2 2T 2025-26
BAELS 3-2

This course will introduce students to the relatively new field of translation studies—as a separate discipline of knowledge, as a linguistic procedure, and as a socially constructed and oriented activity—and enable them to link theory and practice toward an informed decision in translation activities. It will trace the history of translation down the ages to the present, with pointers to the future. This course will cover the evolution of translation and its various strategies. It will cover various forms of translation—interlingual and intersemiotic—and also the practical applications in various fields, like advertising and dubbing movies. Students are expected to increase their awareness related to the nature and social functions of translation and arouse their interest to independently pursue translation theory issues.
