Focus:
The course centers on the study, application, and integration of construction
materials and building utility systems—such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC,
lighting, fire protection, and communication networks—within the context of
interior design.
Rationale:
Knowledge of materials and utilities is essential for interior designers to
create safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing spaces. This course equips
students with the competence to select appropriate materials, specify
construction requirements, and collaborate effectively with allied
professionals while ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and
sustainability practices.
Modality:
The course will be delivered through a blended approach combining lectures,
technical drawing workshops, case analyses, and collaborative design projects.
Students will engage in both theoretical discussions and practical
applications, using manual and digital tools to produce specifications and
schematics that simulate professional practice.
