This course offers a comprehensive exploration of collection management principles and practices within libraries and information centers, covering the lifecycle of information resources from selection to weeding, with a focus on developing balanced, user-centered collections in both physical and digital formats. Effective collection management is essential to meet the evolving needs of users, requiring professionals to adeptly select, maintain, and manage valuable resources. Students will gain the skills to create and sustain collections that support educational, research, and recreational needs, within budgetary and policy constraints. By the end of the course, students will be able to articulate collection management principles, develop tailored policies, evaluate and select resources, understand acquisition and budgeting processes, assess collections, apply ethical standards, utilize digital tools, and execute weeding and preservation strategies. The course is delivered through various modalities, including traditional classroom, online learning, and blended learning to accommodate diverse learning preferences.
