This course provides a systematic examination of the foundational philosophers and ideas that have shaped Western thought from its inception to the Medieval period. Beginning with the Pre-Socratic thinkers, the course will trace the evolution of philosophical inquiry through the works of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and the major Hellenistic schools. The latter part of the course explores the integration and development of philosophical concepts within Islamic and Christian traditions. Through critical analysis of primary texts and scholarly commentaries, students will engage with enduring questions concerning reality, knowledge, ethics, and the nature of society.
