BAELS 2-1

This course introduces students to scholarly discussions on the linguistic development of English in relation to its spread around the world. It examines pluralist approaches such as World Englishes, English as lingua franca, and English as an International Language and traces the Englishes (i.e. Philippine English) that have arisen out of these dynamic models. Likewise, it highlights the current state of research on the linguistic structure of Philippine English and relevant sociolinguistic issues.
