Course Description:

This course offers an in-depth introduction to the field of Translation Studies, examining both theoretical foundations and practical applications of translation across languages and cultures. Students will explore the history and evolution of translation theories, key concepts in linguistic and cultural equivalence, and various types of translation including literary, technical, audiovisual, and legal. 

Through comparative analysis, hands-on translation exercises, and reflection on intercultural communication, students will gain critical skills in analyzing source texts, applying appropriate translation strategies, and evaluating translated works. The course also investigates the ethical, cultural, and technological challenges faced by translators in an increasingly globalized and digital world.

Special emphasis will be placed on the role of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in translation, and the impact of multilingualism in professional and academic settings. Students will be encouraged to reflect on the translator’s role as a cultural mediator and communicator.
