Course Description:
Database Management Systems 1 introduces students to the fundamental concepts of database systems, emphasizing the design, implementation, and management of relational databases. This course covers data modeling, normalization, and the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) to create, manipulate, and retrieve data efficiently. Students will learn essential database design principles and gain practical experience through hands-on projects using industry-standard database management systems. By the end of the course, learners will have a solid foundation in relational database concepts and the skills needed to design and maintain effective data solutions.
Course Objectives:
- Database Design and Modeling: Understand and apply data modeling techniques, including Entity-Relationship (ER) diagrams, to design efficient and logical database schemas.
- Relational Database Concepts: Explain the fundamental principles of relational databases, including primary keys, foreign keys, and integrity constraints.
- SQL Proficiency: Develop proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) for creating, modifying, and querying relational databases.
- Normalization and Data Integrity: Apply normalization techniques to eliminate redundancy and maintain data integrity within relational databases.
